Tesla’s in-house cell team is seeking a technical leader for the lean group of design, manufacturing, and test engineers that run iterative end-to-end sprints that incubate cylindrical form factor technologies at our world-class San Diego pilot facility. This position offers top-of-funnel leverage on our mission to deliver affordable, plentiful, and exhilarating products accelerating the sustainable energy transition!· Lead & grow group of 10+ engineers focused on iterative product / process development (concept, build, test, refine) at max velocity for Tesla’s vertically integrated lithium-ion cells
- Lead & grow group of 10+ engineers focused on iterative product / process development (concept, build, test, refine) at max velocity for Tesla’s vertically integrated lithium-ion cells
- Proactively gather and triage vehicle / factory stakeholder needs— anticipate mass production targets 2+ years in advance— guide team initiatives to intercept
- Routinely connect with Bay Area and Giga Texas leadership peers to adapt priorities, facilitate smooth handoffs, and maximize business impact
- Master knowledge of Tesla cell products, equipment, and manufacturing processes
- Partner with local ops PM to overhaul proto build planning / tracking, automate data pipelines, and relentlessly knock down fundamental output limiters
- Continually tune & innovate systems (of tools and people): drive new protocols, workflows, and documentation standards to boost rate and quality of pilot R&D results
- Recruit / develop world-class talent, manage performance, and nurture local team culture
- Set ambitious & quantitative OKRs, inspire employees, maintain high standard of work, justify resources and represent to executive leadership
- On-site at Tesla San Diego (Kearny Mesa)
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Physics, or related specialization
- 10 years of technical experience, minimum 4yrs demonstrated leadership of other engineers
- Background in design / manufacturing / test / metrology of high-volume, multi-physics product
- Sharp engineering 1st principles, a quantitative mindset, and track record of successful mass production factory launches
- Exceptional technical communication (live reporting, written form, and presentation of data)
- Natural inclination to organize / motivate teams of people and improve workflows

$91,200 - $210,900/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
