What to Expect

Engineer to design, test, & deliver high performance seat belt systems for the current & upcoming Tesla vehicle programs.

What You’ll Do
  • The design release of all seat belt systems in the vehicle, product packaging, validation, & consideration for robust and efficient manufacturing processes
  • Act as the primary technical interface to the design studio, body, interior & seat engineering teams to develop the optimum seat belt packages for occupant protection performance, comfort, and interior styling
  • Manage and direct tier 1 suppliers for engineering development and program timing
  • Support all testing and production validation to meet occupant injury and product performance criteria per established Tesla targets, and regulatory requirements
  • Support restraint system integration work. Provide expertise on seat belt design to ensure five-star NCAP safety ratings for our new vehicles. Work closely with CAE team to provide design inputs and utilize CAE results to optimize component design
  • Support crash tests from early development to homologation phase. Ensure components are supplied to correct pedigrees for all test vehicles and other vehicle level validation and homologation requirements
  • Support supplier & field quality issues to ensure high quality products for our customers
  • Support work on R&D projects to design the next level restraint system
What You’ll Bring
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equvalent experience
  • Relevant mechanical design engineering project experience on a university or professional level
  • Ability to work out ways around obstacles, see opportunities while facing technical difficulties and restrictive timing
  • Effective verbal and written skills to articulate technical issues with peers and suppliers
  • Engineering fundamentals in problem solving & strong hands-on skills
  • Knowledge of manufacturing methods and component/assembly tolerancing
  • Intermediate/Advanced 2D drawing & 3D modeling CAD skills (preferably CATIA)
  • Excellent organizational skills, self-starting and self-motivated
  • Automotive safety restraints system experience, especially in seat belt design is preferred

    Expected Compensation

    $92,720 - $159,600/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits

    Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
