What to Expect
Tesla is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead Process Engineering, Equipment/Test Engineering, and Maintenance at Gigafactory New York, supporting the Service Manufacturing team. This role will be responsible for driving equipment reliability, process improvements, and overall operational excellence in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This role requires strong leadership, technical expertise, and a hands-on approach to manufacturing engineering to drive continuous improvement, enhance equipment reliability, and support Tesla’s mission to accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy.
What You’ll Do
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing engineering team by providing technical guidance, fostering professional growth, and creating a culture of innovation and continuous improvement. Ensure engineers have the resources, training, and support needed to succeed in their roles.
  • Establish and optimize equipment management systems to maintain safe, reliable, and high-quality operations. Drive initiatives that enhance equipment uptime, reduce maintenance costs, and improve cycle times to maximize production efficiency and output.
  • Drive improvements in key performance metrics, including equipment availability, overall efficiency, production cycle times, and cost reduction. Analyze data to identify opportunities for process enhancements and implement strategies that drive measurable performance gains.
  • Develop and execute equipment and process upgrades to increase production capacity, lower operational costs, and improve yield. Work closely with cross-functional teams to design, test, and implement engineering solutions that enhance manufacturing processes and scalability.
  • Ensure strict compliance with Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) standards by proactively identifying and addressing workplace hazards, maintaining up-to-date safety training, and fostering a strong culture of safety ownership across the team.
  • Lead structured problem-solving efforts for unplanned downtime events, utilizing 3D/8D methodologies to identify root causes and implement long-term corrective actions. Collaborate with maintenance, production, and engineering teams to ensure permanent resolutions are in place.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders across engineering, maintenance, and production teams to balance competing priorities, allocate resources efficiently, and ensure seamless communication and execution of engineering initiatives that support operational goals.
What You’ll Bring
  • Degree in an engineering discipline (Mechanical, Electrical or Manufacturing preferred) OR equivalent in direct work related experience
  • Demonstrated experience successfully leading engineering teams within manual and automated high volume manufacturing facilities
  • Exemplary track record of high impact contributions both as an individual engineer and in a management capacity
  • Ability to command the English language both written and verbal
  • Experience with application and teaching of structured problem-solving methodology, such as DOE, root cause analysis, etc.
  • Experience with mechanical, automation, and controls engineering is highly preferred

    Expected Compensation
    • Supervisor Engineering - $81,600 - $122,400/annual salary
    • Associate Mgr Engineering - $105,400 - $158,100/annual salary
    + cash and stock awards + benefits

    Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
