What to Expect

Tesla is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Mechanical Design Engineer in the Autopilot and Electronics Product Design team to design various electronic modules for Tesla Car Computer group. The Engineer will lead the mechanical system design – enabling compute, connectivity, and similar features.

What You’ll Do
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to define product requirements and develop implementations
  • Participate in prototype builds, component fabrication, testing and validation efforts. Provide hands-on support and perform data analysis
  • Develop designs in CAD for both detailed parts and assemblies
  • Perform tolerance analysis, Finite Element Analysis (FEA), and other simulations and analyses before releasing designs for production
  • Create 2D drawings appropriate for production and inspection methods
  • Conduct Design for Manufacturing (DFM) reviews with suppliers and support tooling bring up
  • Optimize components while considering performance, design, integration, size, mass, assembly and more
  • Modeling and design of mechanical components and assemblies including plastic, sheet metal, die cast etc.
  • Support development of engineering and reliability test plans, test data analysis, and troubleshooting of design issues
What You’ll Bring
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience
  • Proficiency in CAD (Catia preferred), tolerance analysis, quality control, data and statistical analysis, failure analysis, GD&T
  • Proficiency of design of plastic injection molded, sheet metal stamping and cast parts
  • Proficiency in running experiments, DOEs and characterization studies
  • Experience in MATLAB, Python, FEA (ANSYS preferred)
  • Experience taking designs from initial concept through to mass production
  • Ability to perform first-principles analysis to ensure a successful design (physics, stress-strain, thermal, tolerance, cost and mass optimization, etc.)

    Expected Compensation

    $106,400 - $256,200/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits

    Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
