What to Expect

The New Programs Engineering team works at the front-end of vehicle design and development, working in an iterative environment to study, simulate, build, and prove out Tesla’s future generation of vehicles. This is a mechanical engineering role with an emphasis on structural design and analysis. The candidate will be developing prototype body and chassis structures in addition to correlating those designs with production systems. The role requires a holistic understanding of vehicle systems to interact with cross-functional teams throughout various design and engineering groups while developing future prototypes and vehicle architectures.

What You’ll Do
  • Prototype Engineering – Full-stack ownership of parts or systems of low volume prototypes. This encompasses design, documentation, assembly, and validation. The candidate will be working closely with in-house fabricators and technicians to create efficient designs that meet very challenging project requirements and constraints
  • Concept Development – Collaborate with designers and engineers throughout the company to develop novel solutions to complex challenges. Effectively document and handoff development to vehicle engineering teams that will productionize it
What You’ll Bring
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in a product development environment
  • Broad knowledge of prototyping methods for metals, polymers, and composites
  • Multiphysics simulation experience
  • Experience with surface design, parametric optimization, and other advanced CAD functionality
  • Hands-on experience in designing and building electro-mechanical systems
  • Effectively handle multiple priorities, organize workloads, and meet tight delivery timelines
  • Detail-oriented personality with effective documentation and reporting
  • Excellent communicator, resourceful, and mindful of time management

    Expected Compensation

    $92,720 - $206,520/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits

    Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
